Every year NCO, auditions 1,000 7-13 year olds and identifies 650 young people to form six age-banded symphony orchestras and six regional orchestras. Many children progress through all our national orchestras gaining 6 years of learning opportunities as part of NCO.
A place in NCO gives a child access to inspirational residential music courses, performance opportunities and membership of year-round regional orchestras. For almost 40 years a summer festival in Cumbria, is changing its pattern of activity. It will include a series of festival and Concerts. by selected performers, and the young artists will also be offered coaching by performers appearing at the festival, and public or private masterclasses. From 2018 onwards an intensive spring course for young performers is planned, and the best participants will be offered a platform at the summer festival.
