Every year NCO, auditions 1,000 7-13 year olds and identifies 650 young people to form six age-banded symphony orchestras and six regional orchestras. Many children progress through all our national orchestras gaining 6 years of learning opportunities as part of NCO.
A place in NCO gives a child access to inspirational residential music courses, performance opportunities and membership of year-round regional orchestras. We have highly sought-after conductors and tutors leading the courses, rehearsals and creative workshops. We deliver live performances in major concert venues in the UK

The National Schools Symphony Orchestra (NSSO) has, since 1994, provided high quality residential orchestral courses for talented young players aged 9 to 19. It has always offered vital experience to those who aspire to membership of the National Youth Orchestra, bridging the gap between school or county orchestra and the NYO. But its single annual residential course is very often a better fit for those talented individuals with wide ranging interests and commitments for whom music is important but possibly not a career or higher education goal.

Julian became enamored with the performances of Benny Goodman at the age of seven, and in 2010 decided to form a group to perform Goodman’s music. The album “A Tribute to Benny Goodman” was recorded in 2011 and released on Signum Records in June 2012 to critical acclaim from both jazz and classical reviewers.
