The London-based Werther Ensemble has at its core 4 distinguished musicians – Jamie Campbell (vln), Hannah Strijbos (vla), James Barralet (vc) & Simon Callaghan (pno). The individual members have won many major prizes and performed at most of the major UK venues.
They gave their first performance as a piano quartet in Feb 2013, when they played Brahms’ op 60 ’the Werther’ from which they take their name. In May 2013 they made an enormous impact at the Whittington International Chamber Music Festival and have since appeared on Radio 3 and embarked on a Brahms concert series at the Conway Hall.

Gary started Wessex Music in 1999 after a career as a Royal Navy Submariner marine engineer; he started playing clarinet in 1976 & later moved to saxophone & flute. Whilst at sea in 1980 his instrument broke so he had to fix it himself. The job took 3 frustrating days & would now take him just a matter of hours. He spent time with flute repairer Jon Dodd and was accepted into the Royal Marines Band Service workshop twice a week for two years learning from their NAMIR technicians.
