The music department at Southwell Minster comprises the boys, girls and men of the professional Cathedral Choir, as well as the Minster Chorale, a voluntary choir. The choirs sing eight services a week plus concerts and broadcasts. Paul Provost is Organist and Rector Chori (Director of Music), and Simon Hogan is Assistant Director of Music.

The 10th Southwell Music Festival takes place in the Nottinghamshire town from 23 – 26 August 2024.
The programme includes a performance of Mozart’s Requiem alongside the world premiere of a new piece for choir and orchestra, commissioned by the Festival from composer Cheryl Frances-Hoad and poet Kate Wakeling.
The programme also includes a headline recital from acclaimed British tenor Mark Padmore in the stunning setting of Southwell Minster. The full programme to be announced on 11 May with tickets on sale from 17 June.

Soweto Gospel Choir was formed in November, 2002 • In December, 2002 their first album “Voices of Heaven” was recorded and went on to reach the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s World Music Chart within 3 weeks of its release in the US • In 2003 the choir won its first award, a Helpmann Award, Australia’s prestigious Performing Arts Award, for “Best Contemporary Music Concert” • This success was followed when they won a 2003 American Gospel Music Award for “Best Choir” • In the same year, they won an American Gospel Music Award for “Best International Choir”
