American soprano Katie Van Kooten’s operatic and concert appearances continue to thrill audiences and earn her praise for using her “powerful, gleaming soprano” to bring vibrancy and life to all of her performances. The 2014-2015 season will see Ms. Van Kooten make her debut with the Atlanta Opera as the Countess in Le Nozze di Figaro. On the concert stage, she will return to the Baltimore Symphony performing in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony conducted by Nicholas McGegan.

"Sellars had mezzo-soprano Kelley O'Connor cut her long hair short, a controversial move. But not only did it add to her vulnerability as Mary, it made her facial expressions stand out with astonishing vividness. With the help of James F. Ingalls; precise yet restrained lighting, which captured the smallest subtleties of expression, O'Conno reminded me of Renée Jeanne Falconetti in Carl Theodor Dreyer's 1928 silent film, "The Passion of Joan of Arc," one of the most affecting portrayals of human suffering in all art.."
