Youth orch specialising in world music, featuring insts from many cultures and bringing together young musicians from any musical heritage to create unique music; Indian ragas, Turkish melodies, Latin rhythms, African drumming, jazz and European harmony are all thrown into the pot. Monthly w/shops and m/classes as well as w/shop programmes in school holidays. Entry requirements: Gr 4 as a guide but no official audition process. Ability to read music not essential but an understanding of harmony and rhythm as well as a willingness to improvise is important. Age range: 14-25.

Hallé Youth Orchestra
The Hallé Youth Orchestra, established in 2002, offers a unique opportunity to local young musicians, aged 13-19 years, to regularly experience the challenge of rehearsing and performing symphonic music to a very high standard, working with and playing alongside professional musicians. Repertoire is the kind performed by professional symphony orchestras. Kent County Youth Orchestra
Kent County Youth Orchestra was founded in 1963 to provide gifted young musicians in Kent the opportunity to develop their skills and gain performing experience. The orchestra meets on courses at Christmas, Easter and in the summer, and players work with professional tutors and leading professional conductors. KCYO consists of up to one hundred players whose ages range from 13 to 21 years. Membership is subject to audition and is open to any young players who live in Kent, at a standard of grade 7 .
