Leeds Youth Opera
Founded in 1971. Produces 2 operas per year under professional music and artistic direction. Inspires young people with a love of singing through opera and drama. Recent productions include Sweeney Todd (Sondheim), The Magic Flute (Mozart) and the British premiere of Appomattox (Philip Glass). Members are aged 12-25 upon joining, with existing members remaining until age 29. An avid chamber musician, he is the founding director of the Rosendal Chamber Music Festival, and was co-artistic director of the Risør Festival of Chamber Music for nearly two decades. He was inducted into the Gramophone Hall of Fame in July 2013, and received an honorary doctorate from New York’s Juilliard School in May 2016
