Tom Randle began early studies in conducting and composition, but a scholarship to study voice soon meant a change in career direction. He made his début with the English National Opera as Tamino in The Magic Flute and has repeated the role with great success at Deutsche Oper Berlin, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Hamburg, New Zealand and the Covent Garden Festival. Well known for his vivid and committed stage portrayals and a unique ability to embrace a wide variety of repertoire, Tom has emerged as one of the most exciting and versatile artists of his generation.
Born in 1970, Tomáš Hanus is now recognised as one of the Czech Republic’s most exciting and important conductors. Having studied with Jiri Belohlavek at the Janáček Academy of Music and Drama in Brno, he came to prominence when he won the Conductors’ International Competition in Katowice in 1999. In Autumn 2016, Tomáš became the Music Director of Welsh National Opera.
Smith is founder and director of The Scottish National Jazz Orchestra & The Tommy Smith Youth Jazz Orchestra. Head of Jazz/Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Holds 3 honorary doctorates: Heriot-Watt, Glasgow Caledonian & Edinburgh Universities & a RCS Professorship. He won three British Jazz Awards (1989, 1996 & 2002), BBC Heart of Jazz Award (2008), Scottish Jazz Expo Award (2009), Lord Provost Music Award (2009), & 7 Scottish Jazz Awards Woodwind (2009); Educator (2011, 2012); Big Band (2009, 2011, 2012); seventh Scottish Jazz Award for album of the year; Parliamentary Jazz Award (2012, 2016).
