GJL is host to Gloucestershire Youth Jazz Orchestra (GYJO). 7pm - 9pm Gloucestershire Youth Jazz Academy (GYJA). 6pm - 7:30pm. To audition for GYJO you will need to be of Grade 6 or above and have a good understanding of the jazz idiom and scales. GYJA welcomes committed young musicians from Grade 4 and above. Grades are only a guide to the level required. More important is a strong commitment and positive attitude alongside good sight reading, confident improvising, musicianship and ensemble skills.

GSWO is aimed at advanced Wind, Brass and Percussion players and it provides an opportunity to tackle advanced repertoire and perform at a high level. The orchestra plays a wide variety of music, including original 20th century wind band scores through to arrangements of popular and classical music. Auditions are required. These are achieved within two full rehearsals to ensure members rehearse and perform to a required level. As a guide, a minimum Associated Board Grade 7 equivalent, or above, is required.

Gloucestershire Youth Choir (GYC) represents the very best young singers in years 8-13 from across the county's 39 secondary schools. By joining, you'll get the chance to take part in singing courses three times a year during weekends or school holidays, working with vocal tutors and visiting professional singers.
GYO rehearses on Thursday evenings during term-time, and may give as many as nine concerts a year, performing programmes that range from the 18th century to the present day. Membership is by audition only. String, Brass and Percussion players need to be at around Grade 7 standard and Woodwind players around Grade 8.

GYWO are now recognised and one of the country’s top youth wind bands after performances at Music for Youth’s National Festival in 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014. In April 2014 the band represented Gloucestershire at the National Concert Band Festival finals at the Birmingham Conservatoire of Music where they were awarded a Gold Performance Certificate. Students wishing to join should be of Grade 6 , display a fun and committed attitude, and be fully involved in the band’s rehearsal and concert commitments. An 8/10 attendance at rehearsals is required.
