The Grand Union consists of some 2 dozen musicians from a variety of parts of the world, embracing a wide range of cultures, music practice and inst and vocal expertise. About half of these musicians are engaged on a regular basis in an enormously varied programme of w/shop projects. Although their educ work is based on a much broader music reference than jazz, the key element of improvisation is fundamental to their work. Wigmore regularly commissions 'one-page scores' for Ignite from eminent composers (including Steven Hough, Amjad Ali Khan, Stephen Walbeck, Jackie Walduck, Param Vir, Jason Yarde, Martin Butler, Peter Wiegold and Luke Bedford) which are performed in concerts and once a year on the Wigmore stage.

They are currently developing the work of this ens within both performance and community contexts.
