The concept behind quartet-lab came from a mutual desire between its members, four instrumentalists of international renown, to experience the wealth of string quartet and chmbr repertoire through performance. Combining a shared passion for experimentation and a wish to move away from preconceived impressions of the standard repertoire, their programming varies in musical texture, context and colour - familiar repertoire is positioned alongside lesser-known contemporary works and they embrace the art of improvisation through the folk music traditions of their native countries.
