Owen Gilhooly studied with Jean Holmes at the Limerick School of Music and subsequently at the Royal College of Music and National Opera Studio. He made his Royal Opera House debut singing Fauré Requiem for the Royal Ballet and in 2007 represented Ireland at BBC Cardiff Singer of the World.
Having had a significant career as a high baritone, his voice has now developed into the tenor range with focus on lirico-spinto repertoire including Macduff Macbeth, Don José Carmen, Lensky Eugene Onegin, Cavaradossi Tosca. He continues his vocal studies in London with David Pollard.
Bass-baritone Patrick Carfizzi opens the 2014-2015 season with the St. Louis Symphony under the baton of Markus Stenz in Brahms’ Requiem and Vier ernste Gesänge, followed by his company debut with the Lyric Opera of Kansas City as Mustafa in Rossini’s L’Italiana in Algeri. Mr. Carfizzi will return to Seattle Opera as the Music Master and Truffaldino in Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos, as well as Houston Grand Opera as the Speaker in Sir Nicholas Hytner’s production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute conducted by Robert Spano.

Following his formal training at the Conservatory in Bratislava and the Opera Studio CNIPAL in Marseilles, the artist was a member of the Berlin State Opera Unter den Linden, where among other parts he was heard as Ferrando (Così fan tutte), Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore), Vanya Kudryas (Katya Kabanová).
