Banff International String Quartet Competition
The 14th Banff International String Quartet Competition, which occurs triennially in Banff, Alberta, Canada, will take place August 29-September 4, 2022. Submissions open October 2021. Open to string quartets of all nationalities whose members are under the age of 35 on August 29, 2022. 2019 Prizes (CAD): 1st Prize worth over $3000,000 (cash prize; recital tours of North America & Europe; paid residency at SMU Meadows; Banff Centre residency; CD recording). 2nd & 3rd Place Prizes ($12,000 & $8,000 plus a Banff Centre residency). Quartets not advancing to finals each receive a $4,000 award.

The AESS Timothy West & Prunella Scales Speech Prize for Actors
The purpose of the competition is “to encourage the communication of English words, with clarity, understanding and imagination”. The competition is open to young actors aged 18 to 23 who are in full or part time training at a recognized institution. Competitors are asked to present a themed programme to include at least one poem or sonnet, and prose from plays and literature, from any period, within a creative framework. First Prize – £1,000 – sponsored by Timothy West & Prunella Scales, Second Prize – £500, Third Prize – £250 The competition is held annually in early spring.
