F/t educator based in Scotland; has developed a method of introducing jazz improvisation in classroom work with pupils of all levels of music ability. Operates a jazz consultancy service for music teachers, and gives w/shops, courses and lectures in other parts of the country. Has given jazz pno seminars in SE Asia and Singapore, and gives online jazz lessons at richardmichaelsjazzschool.com. He was made a BEM in 2012 and is currently Visiting Professor of Jazz Piano at St Andrews University and broadcaster on BBC Radio Scotland's "Jazz Nights".
