Music has been a key part of Bethany School's fabric since its foundation by Rev. Joseph Kendon in 1866 and 150 years on, Music is as strong as ever.

Situated a short walk from the main campus, Bethany’s Music School is housed in what was formerly the village school of Curtisden Green. Featuring a large main hall capable of holding small informal concerts, this is also where rehearsals take place and larger class based activities are held. In addition to this are two teaching rooms and a further five practice rooms, all with pianos.

Bethany School has an excellent track record for pupils continuing their studies in music beyond School, and 2016 even saw the first BRIT Award won an alumni, music producer Charlie Andrew. Destinations have including the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and The Royal College, and pupils are well supported in making the right choice for their future.

Music forms part of the compulsory curriculum for all those in Years 7 to 9. Further up the School, pupils can choose to study GCSE Music, and at Sixth Form  BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Music; widely recognised as an important stepping stone for those wishing to go on to performance based courses at university and music colleges.

Over a third of the school population learns a musical instrument. Pupils are taught by a team of highly qualified and enthusiastic instrumental specialists and tuition in all instruments is available. The School also possesses a number of instruments for hire.

All pupils are encouraged to join an ensemble relevant to their particular interest. Regular ensembles include Choir, Symphony Orchestra, Concert Band, Brass Consort and Master class. Other groups can include close harmony choirs, music and drama collaborations and specialist choirs formed for special occasions. The school calendar lists a wide number of musical events, both inside and outside of the School throughout the year. These include lunchtime recitals, informal concerts and major end of term concerts. Most of these take place in the superb Function Suite, where there is a magnificent Steinway Grand Piano which was recently reconditioned.

Bethany has up to four Music scholarships on offer each year and Music scholars play a vital life in the School’s musical life, assisting and playing in many ensembles, all concerts and Headmaster's assembly.
