Public educ in Northern Ireland, other than further and university education, is administered centrally by the Department of Education and locally by five Education and Library Boards. The dept has a strategic role in developing and implementing educ policies and is reponsible for legislation and financial control of the educ and youth service. It is concerned with the range of educ from nursery educ through to secondary educ, inc special educ, the youth service and community relations in schools.
