The Oxford Lieder Festival explores life, death, & the in between. Poetry & music reflect the preoccupations of their creators, with death an ever-present reality, the supernatural a fascination, & songs an uplifting or cathartic response to these notions. Spine-tingling fairytales are given an added frisson, with gravediggers, monks & soldiers brought to life from Schubert to Weill. Featuring the world’s great artists in 50 concerts, including chamber & choral music, talks & masterclasses, this will be a thrilling fortnight.
