The Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band is regarded by many as the best and most consistent ‘public subscription band’ in the world. In its time the majority of premier band championships have been held by ‘Briggus’ whilst the band has also attracted a formidable reputation for highly entertaining concerts for both the general public and brass band connoisseur. Today, it still continues to be supported through public subscriptions and its own fund raising efforts.

The Band is a totally self-supporting registered charity and continues to support other charities such as the Bristol Children's Hospital, St Peter's Hospice, Dogs for the Blind and the Jessie May Trust to name a few. Band members come from all walks of life. Many are students, often having started in the Band's own training programme and Number 2 band. Frequently they move on to other bands around the country as they progress in their careers. Of course this also means there is always a welcome for players moving into the area.
